This week...

was jam packed! Ditched my regularly scheduled program (mostly exercise) including wed night bball game (gasp) and went out and lived a little...

1. Saw Mad Hot Ballroom at the free outdoor cinemas at The Overflow on the weekend, it’s a great documentary about New York primary school kids who learn ballroom dancing and have interschool competitions. Jpeg was super impressed by their dancing skills – those Dominican Republicans are born with rhythm in their blood!

2. Skipped off training on Tuesday night and enjoyed the delights of a great indoor picnic whilst watching The Princess Bride on the big white wall at ‘The Tuscan Villa’, we had intended to see it at moonlight cinema (which is something I have never done!) but it rained out! Hopefully will get a chance to use our complimentary tickets that we scammed after noticing that an online clothing shop was giving them away with every purchase – we purchased $5.00 coin pouch and received $30 worth of tickets (yay!). Billy lent me the abridged version of book, The Princess Bride, and so far it’s great, much more detail than the movie, but still hilarious.

3. Managed to squeeze in some retail therapy on Australia Day (no, it’s not un-Australian, it’s patriotic to support the stores! Haha) I had written a post-xmas sales wishlist but had only come away from the masses with a PINK handbag (my most favourite item right now). However, a little trip to Birkenhead Point was successful and I left with the following items:

metallic brown sandals for people with wide hoofs (me); pink straw clutch from Esprit, bargain at $13;
Speedo one piece cossie ; Black bikini $20! and Witchery denim skirt (have been looking for one at non-teenager length for ages).

Remaining items on wishlist
casual sundress under $50 ; funky evening clutch (handbag - not auto part as YDG initially thought); and $200,000 one-bed apartment with ocean views and close to city. ha ha.

3. Clinto and Binny’s big fantasy dance party at Equilibrium Hotel was on Wednesday night, talk about popularity! 800 people rsvp’d on their guest list, and they only knew about 200 of them. The place was too packed (max capacity of 200!) to a point where it was just people standing and drinking even though the music was HOT! (Go DJ mirage!) And the lines were so long they went all the way down to George Street. The party ended early when someone smashed the front glass because they couldn’t get into the party. Nothing like waiting in line for an hour to incite violence! For pics and a review of the party check out

shopping for love

No, I'm not Shopping for Love, but I'm becoming addicted to this bad dating show just like the uni-student staple soapie 'Breakers' (now defunct).

The premise of Shopping for Love, is two contestants have 20 minutes and $1000 to shop for gifts for the dater and then the dater chooses the person they want to date based on their choice of gifts. It's set in Melbourne and is the perfect contrast to how Aussies date and how Americans date. Especially as it is screened straight after the pile of gut turning tripe that is The Bachelor. The Aussies are lighthearted, funny and not 'emotionally invested' like the Yanks on The Bachelor!

Other updates - the battle against the unhappy new year gut has started. Whipping my butt and gut into shape with beach boot camp, weights (yes back in Globogym again people!), basketball, paddling, trying to surf (again) and the new world of bi-athelon training (swim and run). Unfortunately the anticipated 1.5km ocean swim didn't happen as planned last weekend, it was meant to be a trial for the Cole Classic swim in Feb which is 2km - so I'm not sure if I'll be ready in time.

Declutter - I tried to declutter my room over the break. Highly unsuccesful as room temperatures in my room are similar to the outside ie. above 30 degrees C and therefore unbearable to be in for more than 5 minutes after 9am. But I finally decluttered my desk the other day. But really all i did was move everything into one big box to sort out later. ha. I found the method from the Organized home site and was looking for tips to declutter and stumbled on the box or banish method and i really wanted instant declutter! Maybe I can wait til winter to sort through the box ha ha.

PS. Gravel Rash Bunny finds a home at Dr.YDG's, it really should be renamed 'dodgy bunny'.

Turducken!

I found a new hero today. Would you believe that Sonya The Black Widow is a member of the International Federation of Competitive Eating? In fact she is world record holding champion. Some of her records include:

Hard-Boiled Eggs: 65 in 6' 40 seconds
84 Lumber Baked Beans: 8.4 pounds (3.8kgs) in 2' 47 seconds.
Chicken Nuggets: 80 in 5 minutes

She is 47kg lean and according to her website has maintained her weight since she started eating competitively 3 years ago. You go girl!

She is also a champion eater of Turducken (which is how I found her) and ate 3.5kgs of it in one sitting. WTF is turducken? It’s 3 birds in one – a duck stuffed into a chicken, stuffed into a turkey. (all deboned and each bird is stuffed). The Black Table shows in detail the 48 hour process of making a Turducken. Err I’ll think I’ll pass on the oyster and sausage stuffing…

As for Sonya (Good onya!) She’s my new hero… and I think I might have found a new hobby when I retire from paddling.

mugcake

So here is my experiment with the mugcake. Miss Cherie gave them to me at xmas from some japanese supermarket in Northbrige, and it was only today that I noticed that they had expired in december 05, so i thought id' better try it out.

From what we could decipher from the package (which is all in japanese)
Step 1. Add package into mug with 1 egg mix wtih chopsticks (hehe)
Step 2. Put in microwave for 1 minute
Step 3. Pull out of microwave and compare with picture on package...err not quite the same fluffy looking cupcake
Step 4. Taste cake, add cream to increase flavour, then chuck in bin, coz it taste just like those rubber, flavourless microwave cakes that I used to bake back in late 80s.

Yeah so the novelty wore out after the first bite! But it seemed like a good idea at the time....It's apparently chocolate flavour, but there wasn't really much to it, abit like a sponge, but not sweet enough or light enough in texture. I dont think the useby date made a difference to the cake....

Happy New Year!

fat cactus, originally uploaded by creamy_mash.

Dear Friends, I hope you all had a Grand New Year - be in the snow, or in the stinking hot 40 degree C heat!!

Yesterday we watched the fireworks from HT's place in Bondi - it was great not having to join the masses in the city -except it was all too easy to fall asleep on the couch afterwards - I blame bloody Richard Wilkins for boring me. Not quite as Glamorous a night as last year (spent in Fijian Resort Pool Bar!!) but still great nonetheless (thanks HT - your place was great, even though you weren't there!)

Today was the closest I've been to living in an oven... Thankfully we live close enough to Antartica so that our water is ice cold. A cool 21 degrees on North Bondi Beach today!

So far my tally for the beach this summer is looking fantastic. Last summer I went to the beach maybe 2 or 3 times, this summer my beach tally to date is:

Northern Beaches x 2
Maroubra x 3
Bondi x 1

Let's see if I can make it at least a dozen times - plus surfing lessons too!

Have a great summer!

PS. Craft adventures have gone on hiatus until after summer. It's too hot to knit/sew/bake!
